Russian Art experts traditionally see the Russian Avant-garde and the Socialist Realism as two opposing poles: Moscow as the center of the artistic innovations and Leningrad (St. Petersburg) with its formal Academy of Arts as the center of the classical tradition. With our exhibition we want to prove otherwise. Leningrad produced beautiful painters with the interesting interrelation of both artistic trends.
