A native of Nizhny Novgorod and a graduate of the State Institute of Cinematography, Konstantin Stepanov (1927-1980) was a renowned film artist who created more than twenty films. In addition to his work in cinema, he also created remarkable easel paintings and graphics.
This exhibition features captivating views of Moscow during the Thaw, showcasing Stepanov's extraordinary ability to capture the essence of everyday life in the city. The exhibition also highlights his depictions of Nizhny Novgorod and Vasilsursk, a small town on the Volga River that the artist visited every spring and autumn.In his Volga works, Stepanov’s deep affection for these places is evident. His paintings invite us into a magical world we long to experience, though it remains largely confined to the artist’s vision.
